“Boeing and TAAG share a strong partnership dating back more than 37 years. We continue to build on that relationship to ensure we share the next 35 years together,” said Van Rex Gallard, vice president of Sales for Africa, Latin America, and Caribbean, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, in a statement. “TAAG operates an all-Boeing fleet and adding three more 777s to its fleet will help TAAG continue to meet its growing demand with products designed for passenger comfort and airline profitability.”

“As we prepare our airline to meet increased demand for travel to and from Angola, adding three more Boeing 777-300ERs to our current fleet of five 777s will keep us well positioned as one of Africa’s leading airlines,” said TAAG Chairman Dr. Antonio Luis Pimentel Araujo, in a statement. “Our customers prefer the comfort of the Boeing airplanes, particularly the 777, and we are proud to add more of what our customers want to our fleet.”

TAAG currently operates an all Boeing fleet. Two new Boeing 777-300ERs were delivered in 2011, joining three 777-200ERs, three 737-200s and five 737-700s. The 777s currently connect Luanda to Beijing, Dubai, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Lisbon, while the new planes will provide additional frequencies on these routes and new European destinations.

“The addition of these airplanes to TAAG’s fleet will further position our national flag carrier to effectively compete with all the foreign carriers that want to serve the Angola market,” said Dr. Augusto da Silva Tomas, Minister of Transports, in a statement. “TAAG’s fleet will thus be a critical component of Angola’s transportation network and a major contributor to the Angolan economy as a critical foreign revenue earner to our growing economy.”

What a pleasant surprise to fly with TAAG, after reading mostly bad reviews. I checked in online 36 hours before the flight. Boarding went fine. Flight attendants were polite (though not overly friendly). I sat at the emergency exit during the first leg of my flight and had huge leg room. Note that it is colder there, so be prepared. Also, no window aligned with the seat, but a tiny window in the emergency exit's door, gave me a bit of a view when I stretched forward. The blanket supplied is thin but warm.
My seat was in the first row after business class and I was served (first in economy)a warm meal with the option of fish or chicken. I had chicken which was tasty and looked good too.

777The tray and TV comes out of the arm rest, but that's no problem. TV control did not work but no problem, as it is a touch screen. Not as many movie options, but really enough to choose from. USB charging port was broken though.
Flights attendants were really polite and had no problem when I asked for another bottle of water, even when leaving the aeroplane after landing.
The second leg of my flight was just as good in row 22. There was only a fish however, but also good and tasty. More than enough leg room (I am 1.68m tall) and good recline. Both flights were a pleasure.
Luanda airport is better than I expected. More thorough security check than OR Tambo and be prepared to open your hand luggage and have it jostled around a bit.
No aircon in the waiting area, so really hot, even at 9pm (May) Keep your eye on the TV screen to see when you have to start boarding, as all announcements are in Portuguese. Buses took us to and from the aeroplanes and boarding also went smooth.
Quite a long que at Porto airport, so try and get off the plane as quickly as possible, to avid waiting too long.

All in all a very good experience and will fly TAAG again without any hesitation.
